The EquiParent Story

At EquiParent our motto is Equestrian Tested…Parent Approved. This means we have gotten equestrians, who understand the ins and outs of riding and horsemanship, to try our products and confirm viability, and parents who approve these products provide a valued benefit to the equestrian market.

The idea for EquiParent came about our first trip to IEA Nationals in Washington DC about 12 years ago. Neither Abbi nor Stephen grew up around horses. Our daughter Hannah took a trail ride for her 7th birthday, and our lives changed forever. 

During the first few years, we learned some important lessons about horses and the equestrian sport, the hard way. We attempted to seek out trusted resources and reliable sources of information and products, and couldn’t easily find any.

Initially, we wanted to model EquiParent after Angie’s list. We quickly realized that was a bigger project than we could handle. Instead, we got involved with US Equestrian, United States Hunter Jumper Association, Interscholastic Equestrian Association, Intercollegiate Horse Show Association and the Equus Foundation. We took full advantage of the opportunities available to learn horsemanship skills, communicate our ideas and concerns, and to volunteer our skills to help ensure the welfare of the equestrian and the horse.

Now our focus is to bring quality, useful, safe, cost-effective products to the industry.

What is a Boot Jacket?

A Boot Jacket is a silicone boot cover that is designed specifically for equestrian riding boots. It protects the boot from the elements. It is made with a large zipper in the front so is easy to put on and take off. There is a slit on the heal so it can be put on over spurs. A Boot Jacket is meant to protect the boots in the barn, around the showground and in the ring. Invented by Abbi Bentz, whose daughter is an equestrian, she had the idea many years ago to find something that would protect her daughters boots while she wasn’t in the show ring. She would wear her boots while mucking stalls, grooming and hosing off horses and while walking around the farm or showgrounds. Since getting her to change in and out of her boots was impossible, Abbi decided the solution was to invent a product that can be worn over the riding boots to protect them.
